Aabritir Olindo Theke by Bratati Bandyopadhyay [Hardcover]
Born and raised in Kolkata, he completed his master's degree in Economics from the University of Calcutta. He joined CMD (now KMDA) for research work. Leaving that job, he pursued his lifelong passion and practice of recitation. He has taken Bengali poetry recitation to remote villages, towns, and cities across almost all continents, including Europe, North America, Australia, and Africa. Various countries in Southeast Asia and the Middle East are also part of his journey. He has connected poetry from the remote villages of Purulia to Madison Square Garden in New York City. His audience for recitation spans from ordinary working-class individuals to educated poetry enthusiasts.
With the use of instruments, lighting, and stage decoration, he has crafted his presentations, leaving his unique signature. On the evening of December 7, 1996, during a program titled Akela Bratati, he established a vision for Bengali recitation that continues to this day. In this lineage, his presentations have become aligned with those of Western poets and reciters. He has over sixty audio albums to his credit. He created Bengal’s first cinema poetry titled Chirasakha. He has been a newsreader for Doordarshan for many years and has been involved in FM radio broadcasting. He has acted in a film and has appeared as a reciter in advertisements for various branded products. Six books on poetry and recitation have been published under his writing and editing. Many of his writings have also been published in magazines and newspapers. To promote recitation, oral art, and various aspects of poetry, he established Kabyaayan and Bratati Parampara.
