Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, a pivotal leader of India's freedom movement, was not only a visionary leader and eloquent orator but also a profound thinker and prolific writer. Throughout his life, he produced numerous writings and speeches on diverse topics, from various locations and under different circumstances. These writings, widely scattered across time and place, present a complex challenge to compile comprehensively into a collected works format, requiring extensive research and effort. With the active assistance of the Netaji Research Bureau, Ananda Publishers has undertaken this monumental task, making it possible not only to publish Netaji's writings systematically in volumes but also to include rare and previously inaccessible documents from the bureau's collection.

Ten volumes of The Complete Works of Subhas Chandra Bose have already been published. The first volume includes his unique autobiography, Bharat Pathik, along with 208 letters, essays directed at the youth, and an introduction to his lineage. The second volume presents his seminal work, India’s Struggle for Independence, with critical contemporary reviews and an appendix containing an interview in which Bose explains his views on fascism and communism. The third volume features nearly 200 letters written by and to Subhas Chandra between 1923 and 1932, as well as speeches such as Goṛar Katha and Natun-er Sandhane.

The fourth volume contains two major essays written during his imprisonment in Burma, discussing the history of the textile industry and the significance of boycotting foreign cloth. Additionally, this volume compiles numerous statements, speeches, and correspondence by Bose. In the fifth volume, over a hundred speeches and writings from 1929 to 1933 reflect Bose’s prominence as a rising national leader and a key proponent of left-wing politics in India, including his farewell address as Mayor of Kolkata.

Volume six comprises 180 letters between Bose and Emilie Schenkl, with an appendix featuring letters between Bose, his brother Sarat Chandra, and Emilie. The seventh volume includes over 200 previously unpublished letters from when Bose was forced into European exile in 1937, along with important political essays and speeches. In 1938, as elected president of the Indian National Congress, Bose reached a significant milestone in his political career but eventually resigned due to opposition from the Congress’s conservative members and Mahatma Gandhi.

Volume eight, covering January 1938 to April 1939, documents letters, essays, and speeches, including Bose’s famous Haripura speech and key correspondence with Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru. The ninth volume contains writings from the period following his resignation up to his secret departure from India in January 1941, reflecting his intensified anti-imperialist stance and vision for a socialist future.

In February 1943, Bose embarked on a perilous submarine journey from Europe to Asia, a phase captured in the tenth volume through his writings and speeches, illuminating his stance on nationalism and international relations in the 20th century. The eleventh and final volume collects his writings from 1943-1945, encompassing his leadership of the Indian National Army, the formation of the provisional Azad Hind Government, and the ensuing armed campaign against British rule.

It is believed that Netaji died on August 18, 1945, in a plane crash in Taipei. His incomplete military campaign against British rule marks a poignant chapter in India’s history, a testament to his unwavering patriotism and organizational prowess.
