Om by Smaranjit Chakrabarty [Hardcover]
After many years, Bihan has returned to Badampahar. Rijul has come to Badampahar with a new job, and Falak has lived in Badampahar since childhood. The wounds of the past still bleed for Bihan, and he hasn’t been able to forget Mitu. Unknowingly, he becomes entangled in Mitu's life once again. He feels an inexplicable connection to Mitu's son. Astrophysicist Rijul stays as a paying guest at Mitu's house and works at a nearby observatory. Rijul likes Jhil, but Jhil is a silent girl, hiding her inner pain while living at her relative Rabi's house. Despite her feelings, Jhil finds herself unable to acknowledge Rijul’s love. However, deep down, she senses a new warmth within herself because of that love. Rabi, driven by a secret agenda, tries to keep Jhil hidden away from everyone. Rabi's stepbrother Falak understands everything, but with no place to go with his ailing brother and mother, he silently endures Rabi’s tyranny. Falak, feeling helpless, gets drawn into Rabi’s unsocial activities. Nuri advises him to free himself from this slavery. And amidst all of them roams Falak’s brother Biplob. The mentally unstable Biplob wants to change everything, to start a revolution. Different stories intertwine with one another. Even amidst hatred, selfishness, greed, and betrayal, love somehow tries to find a place. A man named Mohan says that the "Om" uttered by the Vedic sages is nothing more than a prayer for warmth from the sun. In the cold foothills of the mountains, these people are seeking that very warmth. And it is their quest and story of love that "Om" narrates.
