Janmadine Rabindranath by Krishna Priya Dasgupta [Hardcover]
Rabindranath's birthday celebrations in the country where there are so many different celebrations abroad today, started on 25 Baishakh of 1294 Bangla, English 7 May 1887 when Rabindranath was 27 years old. Sarla Devi was the entrepreneur. On 25 Baishakh of 1343, Rabindranath passed away in 76 years. From that year a new phenomenon started in Santiniketan. 25 Baisakh falls in the summer holidays, so Rabindranath's birthday celebrations start in earnest at Santiniketan on New Year's Day from this time. But 'birthday' is also celebrated on the specific date of birth. It is good to say that since 1343 Bengal, the birthday festival has been held twice in the month of Baisakh in Santiniketan. 25 Baishakh of 1348 Bangalabd was Rabindranath's 81st and last 'birthday'. From that first 'birthday' at the age of 27 to his 81st birthday, every 'birthday' of his has been discussed in this book. And it is in this source that the man Rabindranath came to the fore - his many personal feelings - love, pain. Numerous facts, information—above all anecdotal accounts of various 'birthday' observances—have come to the fore.
