Dilip Kumar Roy's life is vast and multifaceted - he is a musician, singer, composer-lyricist, a seeker of spiritual nectar, a believer in the ‘impossible,’ a world-loving mystic with "Akumar Yash" (youthful glory), a seeker of the Divine in the world, a devoted literary servant, a loving friend, a witty and refined individual, a person with great pride, self-conscious, a disciple of Aurobindo, a nation builder, and yet a recluse. He can be described with many more epithets. He is greater than what he has given. His entire life, including his literature, music, and poetry, is shaped by an unbroken spiritual consciousness and a continuous search for truth.
All in all, Dilip Kumar Roy is talent-oriented toward the world. Yet, it cannot be denied that his creations found their ultimate fulfilment in his music. Not only that, but he also played a significant role in spreading the music he created and experienced globally. If music was his first love and his initial identity, Dilip Kumar’s second identity is that of a first-class literary figure, having excelled in his unique spiritual practice. From the world of music, he transitioned into the world of literature.
With more than a hundred books in Bengali and English, his works include novels, poetry, music, travelogues, romances, and supernatural stories, covering a wide range of subjects. It must be noted that most of his works are infused with mysticism or spiritual themes. His literary creations pulse with a sense of supernatural presence even amidst modern life. In his works, rather than focusing solely on narrative, mental self-awareness, the outlines of future life, the characteristics of creation, and the supreme presence of God are elements that the reader perceives at every moment. This kind of thematic treatment has not been observed in Bengali literature before.
In this fourth volume of Dilip Kumar Roy's collected works, five books are included: Deshe Deshe Chhodi Uṛe (Traveling Around the World), Dwicharini (The Two-Faced Woman), Aghotoner Purborag (Prelude to the Unhappening), Taranjali (Offering of Stars), Chandashiki (Chandashiki, a poetic collection), and Patrabali (Letters).
