The late 16th and early 17th centuries were a pivotal time in Bengal's history. While in northern India, Emperor Akbar and later Jahangir ruled, in Bengal, the twelve bhuiyans rose to challenge Mughal dominance. One of the most significant kingdoms among them was the Jessore kingdom in the southern part of Bengal, in the region known as the Bhati Province. The ruler of Jessore at the time was Maharaja Pratapaditya. It was a time of turmoil, with slave markets, pirate raids, and wars. This story is set during that period.
In this turbulent era, there is an extraordinary character named Ushnish. He and his guru, Mahamaya Mukhopadhyay, protect Maharaja Pratapaditya and his kingdom from various calamities. At times, Ushnish battles fierce pirates like Dabhir, and at other times, he fights against the Mughal governor of Bengal, Islam Khan. He confronts enemies aboard pirate ships, and at one point, to save Maharaja Pratapaditya and his family, he boldly infiltrates the Mughal camp. Throughout his missions, he is supported by his capable guru, Mahamaya, and his friend, Hasan.
The two novels in Ushnish are packed with thrilling adventures—pirate battles, wars, rescue operations, and brilliant strategies. Every page is filled with surprises and excitement, keeping readers on edge, wondering "What will happen next?" The stories also highlight the lost glory of Bengal. Furthermore, Ushnish tells the tales of those who never bow before danger or power—those who are honest, disciplined, and altruistic. Written in rich, captivating prose, Ushnish is a historical thriller that immerses readers in Bengal's vibrant past.
