Bimal Kar, the storyteller, is a pioneer in the world of short fiction. Writing short stories was his passion. Early in his literary career, he penned one short story after another. Later, he engaged in various experiments and explorations within the realm of short fiction. The stories in his book Panchashati Golpo (Fifty Stories), published by Anand, were personally selected by the author. In addition to that, over a hundred of his stories were scattered across various publications. These collected stories have now been published in two volumes as Bimal Kar’s Golposangraha (Story Collection). It represents a distinct world of Bengali short stories. Also included, in its relevant context, is Bimal Kar’s exquisite essay Amar Lekha (My Writings), which reflects on his own writing journey. However, the stories from his thematic anthologies Upakhyanmala and Saras Golpo (Charming Stories) are not included here. In both character and tone, Bimal Kar’s Golposangraha claims an eternal place in literature.
