Sunil Gangopadhyay’s complete poetry collection, Kobitasamagra, is being published in chronological volumes. This is undoubtedly great news for lovers of Bengali poetry. As one of the greatest writers in Bengali literature, Gangopadhyay is also a highly influential poet. It is well known that he was a leading figure in the 1950s "Krittibas" movement, which transformed Bengali poetry. Readers and critics alike noted with awe that this poet was not recounting old tales but bringing a fresh breeze through his writings, spreading a fragrance previously unknown.
Balancing the demands of prose and poetry is a challenging task that not everyone can achieve. Gangopadhyay succeeded in this because, despite being a distinguished literary figure, he never forgot the simple truth that he is fundamentally a poet, with poetry being his first love. He continues to fulfill this love generously, keeping readers equally engaged.
The fourth volume of Kobitasamagra includes three poetry collections. Many poems from these collections are cherished memories for readers of various ages, with numerous famous lines still widely quoted. This volume features his well-known collections Sei Muhurte Neera (At That Moment, Neera), Bhorbelaer Uphar (Gift of the Early Morning), and Onno Desher Kobita (Poems from Another Country). It also includes some unpublished poems, translated works, and a selection of rhymes.
