Although the narrative includes some fictionalized elements, like adjusting Dwarkanath Tagore’s age to bring him into the story, the author asserts that he has remained true to historical facts, only taking creative liberties within the realm of historical possibility.

The novel features both historical and fictional characters, including Carey, Ramram Basu, Ram Mohan Roy, and others. Meanwhile, characters like Reshmi, Tuski, and John Smith represent the possible figures of that era. The aim is not to offend any religion, community, or historical figure but rather to depict the universal emotions of joy and sorrow through specific historical events and personalities. Additionally, the author reflects on the unique personality of the city of Kolkata, whose streets, buildings, and gardens are rich with stories, making it distinct from other ancient Indian cities. Despite its flaws, the city remains beloved because it is contemporary to the author’s own time. Through this work, the author hopes to capture the essence of an important historical period and its characters, blending fact and fiction to illuminate the broader human experience.
