Sukumar Sen, a contemporary of the last century, spent his entire life exploring a wide range of subjects. At times, he was busy writing the history of literature, while at other times, he was engaged in the historical analysis of language. Along with this, he ventured into the history of words, the culture of different regions, the depths of mythology and epics, the realm of ghosts, the mysteries of detective stories, and the vastness of history from the grey pages of old literature to the depths of history. His questing mind first appeared in the pages of the magazine Prabasi in 1327 (Bengali Calendar). After that, his pen never stopped until his death. He wrote everything from short essays to long ones, and at times, expressed his opinions in his essay collections. He wanted to present new aspects of his thoughts.
His writings covered a vast array of topics, including ghost stories, early publications of texts, fiction, poetry literature, studies on Chaitanya, research on Rabindranath, the history of rail travel, and the history of Kolkata. In the fifth volume, these topics are discussed and preserved within two covers. The pursuit of knowledge never stays static. New information and fresh analysis constantly enrich the study of knowledge. Despite this, the works of Sukumar Sen, who was a pioneer in discussing various subjects, have not lost their value even today.
