Dilip Kumar Roy’s life is vast and multifaceted - he is a musician, singer, composer-lyricist, a seeker of spiritual nectar, a believer in the ‘impossible,’ a universal lover with "Akumar Yash" (youthful glory), a mystic searching for the divine in the world, a distinguished literary servant, a loving friend, a witty and refined person, a strong individual with immense pride, self-conscious, a disciple of Aurobindo, a servant of the nation, and yet a recluse. He can be described in many other ways. He is greater than what he has given to the world. His entire life - his literature, music, poetry - everything is etched in an unbroken spiritual consciousness and a constant quest for truth.
Overall, Dilip Kumar Roy is a genius oriented toward the world. However, it cannot be denied that his greatest creation reached its ultimate fulfilment in his songs. Not only that, but he also played a significant role in spreading the music he created and experienced across the world. If music was his first love and initial identity, then Dilip Kumar’s second identity is that of a first-class literary figure who has excelled in his unique spiritual practice. From the world of music, he entered the world of literature.
With more than a hundred books in Bengali and English, his works include novels, poetry, music, travelogues, romances, and stories of the supernatural, covering a variety of subjects. It must be said that most of his writings are imbued with mysticism or spiritual themes. His literary works resonate with a sense of the supernatural even within modern life. Rather than focusing solely on narrative, his works emphasize mental self-awareness, the outlines of future life, the form and characteristics of creation, and the absolute presence of God - elements that the reader perceives in every moment. Such a thematic approach has not been seen in Bengali literature before.
In this selected volume, four of his books are included: Bhramyamaan (Wandering), Sangeetiki (The Musician), Aghatan Ajo Ghache (The Impossible Still Happens), and Smriticharan (Memoirs).
By coincidence, none of his novels or other books have been included in this compilation. Readers may have complaints about this. We can only say that when an author writes extensively, there is a risk in selecting a few works for a compilation. Nevertheless, in this case, we have chosen Dilip Kumar Roy's four best works.
