A contemporary critic aptly wrote: "A river has no pretense—nor does Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay in his identity as a novelist. His vibrant childhood memories, a painful crisis of self-identity, and a calm, detached observation, all anchored by a profound sense of faith, have shaped his literary life." Among the rare authors of Bengali fiction, Shirshendu’s primary strength lies in this sense of faith. Even amidst life’s uncertainties, he boldly articulates "a resolute transcendence." Standing amid endless aimlessness, he remains courageous, a unique creator. In any of Shirshendu's stories, despite all the vulnerabilities around, there is an unwavering "human concern for humanity." Currently, amidst a troubled time, he seeks the sacred essence of humanity with profound affection. He believes there is a refuge somewhere, a place to return to. This 'lover yet renunciant' author imbues his entire work with "an intense longing for an unspoken love." In his own words, "I have tried to express this longing in various ways in my writing. Yet, I feel that perhaps due to my failures in expression, I still haven’t conveyed to everyone the love within me... Does this world, this Kolkata, this country understand my unspoken love? Can everything be expressed through language?"
Despite the author's own uncertainties, the characters he creates carry "the wave of that love." His distinctive style and perspective in the construction of novels have added a new dimension to Bengali literature. All of his novels are being published in segments, and this tenth volume includes five memorable works: Guha Manob, Kalo Beral Shada Beral, Dwicharini, Jhampi, and Chakra (Parts 1-35).
