In human existence, there are many moments of both silent and public humiliation. Contempt and oppression must be endured in silence, with no other way out. Helpless poverty and the indifferent gaze of the powerful towards that poverty form an unchanging current of the social system. In this realm of helpless survival, Joy Goswami’s poetry has always found its existential position. With every experience of suffering, his mind is compelled to carry the thought, “If I were in that situation, what would have happened to me?” This reflection has shaped his work. With great precision, these markers of his position have been gathered in this collection. Here, there are also various voices of protest standing against the tyranny of the rulers. From the second half of the seventies to the present, a period of more than forty-five years, this collection titled Protest in Joy has been prepared from Joy Goswami’s poetry, through which the poet’s voice of protest reaches the heart of the reader.
