"I had once started writing prose with humorous stories"—this is what Tarapada Roy himself has stated. He firmly established his place in the creation of humorous stories from the very beginning. It cannot be denied that in terms of theme, thought, and craftsmanship, Bengali short stories have touched the pinnacle of world literature. Bengali short stories are a source of pride for Bengali literature. One particular genre within this tradition is the humorous story. High-quality humorous stories were written in Bengal fifty years ago and for the next couple of decades. However, after that, this genre gradually weakened. The skilled artisans of humorous storytelling either retired or devoted themselves to writing other kinds of stories. As a result, this particular genre of Bengali stories is now nearly diminished. In the midst of this, Tarapada Roy, almost alone, continues tirelessly to write humorous stories. He effortlessly finds that rare source of life where the elements of humor are hidden. Rabindranath, while giving an example of laughter, spoke of diamonds—"Laughter-crying-diamonds-emeralds all move well." In Tarapada Roy's humorous stories, there is that diamond-like brilliance. The combination of the story's name, narrative, and characters creates an uninterrupted and seamless flow of humor, which is the greatest achievement of this collection.
