A difficult, exceptional style of prose writing once seemed to place the existence of the reader in jeopardy, as if Kamal Kumar Majumdar had erected a wall around it. Yet, his storytelling universe has always been rich with life’s creation and mystery. In his novels and stories, he intertwined the definitions of life, wonder, and inquiry, blending them with profound meaning. Kamal Kumar consciously chose this prose style as the medium for his novels. According to Sunil Gangopadhyay’s perception, “Kamal Kumar seemed to have strengthened the armor of language in his stories, deliberately building a small yet attentive readership.”

Despite his deliberate efforts, Kamal Kumar remains a distinctive storyteller in Bengali literature. In discussions and evaluations of the value of fiction, his novels cannot be ignored. Rather, as a literary legend, he will be remembered and read.
