In the third volume of the *Biva Hercule Poirot* series, we present Agatha Christie's third novel and the second to feature the detective Hercule Poirot—*The Murder on the Links*. Between December 1922 and March 1923, this novel was serialized in four parts in a magazine called *Grand Magazine* under the title *The Girl with the Anguish Eyes*. When published as a book, the title was changed. In March 1923, it was released in the United States by *Dodd, Mead and Co.* and in May of the same year, it was published in the United Kingdom by *The Bodley Head*. Upon its release, the novel quickly gained the undivided affection of readers. *The Times Literary Supplement*, *The New York Times Book Review*, and various other contemporary magazines praised the novel's structure, character development, and, most notably, the nature of the mystery and its resolution. Christie's biographer Laura Thompson has noted that Christie based this novel on a real crime that occurred in France. Perhaps that is why the story has a slightly French flair rather than a British one; it blends emotion, speed, and seemingly impossible mystery in a unique mix. Yet, above all, it is Christie's masterful exploration of the human mind—its light and darkness—that stands out; where the allure of the seven deadly sins creates a personal hell, while the unexpected touch of love creates a heaven.
