Golaknath Mukhopadhyay is a young man from a village by the Meghna River in East Bengal, who works in Kolkata and lives in his employer's house. While living there, Golok, a gentle and intelligent young man, gets involved in solving some criminal mysteries. In the first story, Golok's employer is murdered in front of everyone. The murderer surrenders himself! But what happens next? Where does Golok find the clue? In the second story, another murder happens in a different house in Bagbazar, where the elderly Haridasi Devi is killed. The chief police inspector, Jadu Nath, also seeks Golok's help in this case. Golok, using various clues, moves towards the murderer! But will Golok be able to catch the culprit in the end? Another aspect of this story is Konkamala, who shares a sweet-and-sour unspoken romance with Golok, adding another dimension and delight to the story. These mystery tales are set in the early twentieth century, during British rule. Bengal was in turmoil due to the Partition of Bengal. This book vividly describes old Kolkata and the story of Golaknath Mukhopadhyay becoming Detective Golok in a gripping and smooth narrative.
