"In 1922, the excavation of Mohenjo-Daro, which brought the Indus Valley Civilization to the forefront of the world, was credited to Rakhaldas Bandyopadhyay. However, in 1924, the announcement of this discovery to the entire world was made in the name of Sir John Marshall, thereby denying Rakhaldas his due credit. Despite his immense contribution to Indian history, Rakhaldas's work was thoroughly neglected, and he lost his job, passing away at a young age. Rakhaldas intended to publish the excavation report of Mohenjo-Daro as a book, but this hope was never fulfilled because Sir Marshall did not return the report to him on time. Although the report was eventually recovered, its photographs were never obtained from Marshall, leaving the report incomplete for a long time. This book is the first Bengali translation of Rakhaldas's original excavation report, enriched with detailed notes, historical context, and newly discovered information to make it accessible to readers. Efforts have been made to enhance the book with photographs from the reports of Marshall, Mackay, or Wheeler, as well as some directly from Mohenjo-Daro."
