Pratikshan Prothom Barsho Prothom Sankhya [Paperback]

On the second day of July 1983, the bi-weekly magazine named Pratikshan was first introduced to readers. At that time, commercially published magazines in Bengali were dedicated either to literature or to news. Pratikshan broke down the wall between literature and news, amazed us with outstanding analytical and investigative reports, and continuously experimented with promising new writers instead of relying on popular ones. Additionally, Pratikshan's declared stance was left-leaning (somewhat liberal left). Combining all these elements, Pratikshan created a space between commercial and alternative magazines. The first issue of the magazine brought a breath of fresh air and a promise of something new. Thus, the emergence of Pratikshan was indeed an event. Four decades later, the facsimile edition of that first issue will surely rekindle the memories of Pratikshan's regular readers from that time and inform new readers that such a magazine once existed.
