"Chandra Mukhopadhyay was born in Kolkata. She has been a school teacher. Alongside, she has spent almost thirty years searching for the traditional songs of Bengali women and mothers. She has collected almost six thousand songs along with their tunes from Bengal, as well as the Goalpara-Silchar region of Assam, through years of hard work. Some of these songs can be found on the 'Geedali' channel on YouTube. She has written about this subject in various newspapers and magazines. From pregnancy, labor pains, childbirth processes to everything needed for nurturing life—gathering food and water, house cleaning, washing utensils, bringing fuel, grinding spices for cooking, spinning, quilting, milling, pounding—all these activities have been accompanied by songs composed by women. The independent voices of women engaged in various professions, whether in markets, hills, or jungles, blend with the community songs of female priests wishing for social welfare. The songs of women's labor are a rich source of social and musical history."
