The time period noted for this sketchbook is 1979–1982, and the works in it were created in Delhi. At that time, the artist was professionally associated with Rashtrapati Bhavan. This influence is clearly reflected in the works within the sketchbook.

It was during this period that the seeds of the artist’s "bureaucrat" theme were sown, evident in the layouts sketched with pencil, pen, and charcoal. In one section of the sketchbook, he wrote:

"When I live, I do wish my friends to be more human than artists. I do not care how good artists they are or not, but I surely like to find them more human."

Many of the works in this sketchbook later evolved into some of his most significant paintings.
