"Abanindranath Tagore is the most remarkable name in the Indian art world. However, merely calling him an artist does not fully encompass his identity. He holds a distinguished position in Bengali literature as well. Just as he experimented in the field of art, he also continuously explored and experimented in the realm of literature. He had a special inclination towards writing for children. His books like 'Rajkahini', 'Buro Angla', and 'Shakuntala' have been cherished by Bengali children for generations. His memoirs 'Gharoa' and 'Jorasankor Dhare' are exceptional pieces. However, his artistic mind was always dreaming of various forms of writing, and among these, composing plays for Jatra (traditional folk theater) was one of them. It is said that his uncle, Rabindranath Tagore himself, also had a desire to write for Jatra, but due to his numerous commitments, he could not fulfill this wish. Abanindranath, however, realized his vision. 'Jatragane Ramayana' is the product of that vision. The manuscript of 'Jatragane Ramayana' was published as a book through the efforts of the author's grandson, the late Mohanlal Gangopadhyay. The book remained unpublished for many years. After a long period of remaining unpublished, it was re-published through the efforts of artist Shuvaprasanna. Bengali readers will be enriched by this new type of literary work."
