"Pranesh stepped off the train with his job appointment letter in hand. His destination was Smritiharganj, which was a considerable distance away and required crossing a river. However, even in the early morning, he couldn’t find any rickshaws or other vehicles near the station. At that moment, he suddenly saw a girl riding a bicycle approaching the station. Upon talking to her, he learned that there was a strike taking place, and thus, no vehicles were operating on the roads. Yet, he had to reach his office by the afternoon; otherwise, he would lose the job. The peculiar girl helped him by cycling him to the riverside and even ferrying him across the river on a dinghy.
When Pranesh reached the office, he discovered that his posting was fifty miles away in a region called Bhuvanjhil. He had no choice but to head there. At Bhuvanjhil, his superior, Badansundar Mashai, showed him around and explained everything. However, that very day, Badansundar received news of his wife’s illness and had to leave to be by her side. Pranesh was left alone for several days in the desolate house, which was eerily isolated and devoid of human presence.
What Badansundar hadn’t mentioned was the terrifying transformation the region underwent at nightfall as the sun disappeared.
Nevertheless, the dreadful aura of the night faded away with the dawn. In the daylight, the region appeared calm and serene, giving no hint of the terrifying events that occurred at night. As the story progresses, other characters such as Bannya, Kalpana Dutta, Haraan Chandra, Darogababu, and two gigantic snakes residing by the river become entwined with Pranesh’s life."
