At the end of the 18th century, comparative-historical linguistics was born through the efforts of William Jones. Jones' observations laid the foundation for subsequent research, leading to the field of Indo-European linguistics. Throughout the 19th century, especially in Europe and Germany, significant progress was made in this area of study. Concepts such as language families, proto-languages, reconstruction, comparative methods, sound change laws, and historical syntax developed primarily through the study of Indo-European languages. From the beginning of the 20th century, there have been considerable changes in the perspective of linguistics, and the focus on Indo-European studies has somewhat diminished. However, this research still retains its relevance today. The current book is not a history of Indo-European studies but rather an introduction to the Proto-Indo-European language. It explores the structure of the proto-language, the efforts made by various scholars to reconstruct its form, and why the organization of the proto-language has not been fully preserved among its descendants. The book attempts to answer these questions and provides an initial introduction to the daughters of the proto-language and 'linguistic paleontology.'
