Ramapada Choudhuri Ramapada Choudhuri was born on December 28, 1922. He spent his childhood in the railway town of Kharagpur. Education: Presidency College. He earned an M.A. in English literature. In addition to his stories and novels, he has written several essay collections, memoirs, and an extraordinary book of rhymes. He was awarded an honorary D.Litt. by the University in 1998. In 1988, he received the Sahitya Akademi Award. He was honored with the highest literary award of the University of Calcutta, the Jagattarini Gold Medal, in 1987. He also received the Sarat Chandra Award and Prize from the University of Calcutta in 1984, the Sarat Chandra Prize from the Sarat Samiti in 1997, the Rabindra Prize in 1971, and the Anand Prize in 1963. His Collected Stories was also awarded by the University of Calcutta. His numerous novels and stories have been translated into Hindi, Malayalam, Gujarati, and Tamil. Many of his works have been published in English, Czech, and German translations. He is the only Indian writer whose stories have been included in Literary Olympians, a book published in America, translated by Clinton B. Seely from the University of Chicago. His novel Khariyz has been published in English.
