Bharate Rajnoitik Cartoon Charcha by Sumit Ghosh [Hardcover]
Political cartoons are a reliable source of entertainment for politically-conscious people. Cartoons originated in Europe in the 18th century. Cartoons came to our country from abroad by Prananath Dutta and Girindrakumar Dutta. According to many, Gaganendranath Tagore is the pioneer of Indian cartooning. However, it was the 'editorial cartoon' drawn by newspaper cartoonists that popularized the political cartoon genre. Kafi Khan in Amritbazar newspaper in 1935 and Shankar in Delhi's Hindustan Times the following year drew 'editorial cartoons' which caused widespread response. In 1947 Shankar published the famous cartoon magazine Shankar's Weekly. Such cartoons have no answer for satirizing political characters. Sumit Ghosh's book 'Political Cartoon Practice in India' has compiled the cartoon works of Yashaswi cartoonists. Diligent research has revealed the history and dynamics of cartooning. The book is unique in its political cartoons, which are imbued with humor and protest spirit.
