The life and dates of the medieval mystic poet Kabir are surrounded by much debate, mystery, and legend. However, the popularity of his sayings is unquestionable. In these universal and timeless writings, quite a few interpolated parts have also infiltrated. In the first decade of this century, upon joining Santiniketan and under the direct inspiration and urging of Rabindranath, scholar Kshitimohan Sen undertook the task of compiling a pure collection of Kabir's sayings. He examined numerous manuscripts, traveled to many places, and directly gathered materials from the mouths of people. The result of this immense effort was the four-volume 'Kabir.' After almost eighty-five years, this invaluable book has been reprinted in a single volume. Nearly three hundred and fifty Kabir sayings are included here, organized by subject, along with simple Bengali translations. Former Vice-Chancellor of Visva-Bharati, Sabyasachi Bhattacharya, has welcomed the re-publication of this book during this time of national solidarity and communal harmony. His extensive foreword is another attraction of this edition.
