Folk tales have an irresistible charm for children. In fact, not just children—adults too have never been able to resist the allure of folk tales. Across the world, in various languages, vast treasures of folk tales have been preserved, and conscious efforts are being made globally to safeguard them. These tales are not limited to the boundaries of one’s own language or country. For centuries, folk tales have been exchanged between countries and languages, enriching cultures worldwide. Through this exchange, we get to enjoy stories from different languages and countries, often reshaping them to suit our tastes and eagerly sharing them with others.

Many Ukrainian folk tales are available in English, and a few have also been presented in Bengali. This collection brings together a selection of Ukrainian folk tales originally read in English.
