Subhash Chandra Basu Samagra 2 by Subhash Chandra Basu [Hardcover]
Subhash Chandra Basu Samagra 2 by Subhash Chandra Basu [Hardcover]
In celebration of Subhas Chandra Bose's 86th birth anniversary, the second volume of his Collected Works is being released. This volume includes the complete and revised version of his seminal work, The Struggle for India's Independence (Bharater Mukti Sangram). This pivotal and highly significant historical work has been newly translated into clear and fluent Bengali for the benefit of readers. The translation has been carried out by Suman Chattopadhyay and Sujat Basu. After his autobiography and early writings, this work is considered essential reading, and it is placed in the second volume with this in mind.
The first part of The Struggle for India's Independence—which covers the period from 1920 to 1934 in the Indian freedom struggle—was first published in 1935 by a London-based publishing house. It was highly praised in various British periodicals and widely appreciated by the intellectual circles in Europe. However, the British government banned its entry into India. The second part of the book—covering the years 1935 to 1942 and the events of the freedom struggle—was written by Bose in Berlin in 1942 during the Second World War. After the war, the manuscript was retrieved from his wife. The first edition of the 1935 publication was republished in Kolkata in 1948, with the second part released as a separate volume four years later.
Including the complete, revised, and unabridged version of The Struggle for India's Independence in the Collected Works of Subhas Chandra Bose fulfills an important need. Along with the main text, valuable comments and reviews from various periodicals and prominent individuals regarding the book are also included in this volume. Additionally, the appendix features a detailed account of an interview with Bose, which is highly intriguing. In this interview, Bose offers explanations about his views on fascism and communism, which were discussed in the main text.
Subhas Chandra Bose was the principal leader of India's freedom struggle. It is impossible to understand the history of India and the resurgent Asia without acknowledging his contributions. His extraordinary life spanned multiple chapters of the national movement and reached across countries. He was not only an ideal leader or a great orator, but also a philosopher, thinker, and powerful writer. Over the course of his life, in different circumstances and across various countries, his numerous writings and speeches have been scattered. Collecting and publishing them as a comprehensive work is undoubtedly a difficult, research-intensive, and laborious task. This work has been undertaken by Anand Publishers, with assistance from the Netaji Research Bureau, which has played a significant role in preserving Bose's writings and ideas over the past several decades. The Bureau's own archive contains many rare and invaluable documents that are exclusive to them. These documents have been made available for the Collected Works, ensuring that new and previously unpublished information, letters, writings, speeches, copies, photos, and statements are included, which may not be published elsewhere now or in the future.
The first volume of the Collected Works has already been highly acclaimed. It is divided into four well-organized sections. The first section contains Subhas Chandra Bose's unique autobiography, Bharat Pathik. The second section includes two hundred and eight of his provocative letters. The third section features eight essays that inspire the youth of today to build a new India. The fourth section contains genealogical information and other factual writings that complement his autobiography, letters, and miscellaneous essays.
