The main leader of the Indian independence movement, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, was not only an ideal leader and orator, but also a philosopher, thinker, and powerful writer. His numerous writings and speeches, created at different times, under various circumstances, and in different countries, cover a wide range of topics. These writings are scattered in such a way that compiling them into a complete collection is a difficult, research-intensive, and laborious task. This challenging endeavor has been undertaken by Anand Publishers, with direct assistance from the Netaji Research Bureau. As a result, not only has it become possible to publish his collected works in an organized manner in volumes, but many rare and invaluable documents have also been added from the Netaji Research Bureau's own archives. These include many documents, letters, writings, speeches, copies, photographs, and statements that have never been published elsewhere, and there is little possibility they will be published in the future.

Five volumes of Subhas Chandra Bose's complete writings have already been published. The first volume contains his unique autobiography Bharat Pathik, two hundred letters, essays written for the youth community, and details about his lineage. The second volume includes his authoritative book India's Struggle for Independence, revised and complete. This volume also compiles contemporary opinions on the book, and in the appendix, there is a detailed account of an interview in which Subhas Chandra Bose elaborates on his views on fascism and communism. The third volume includes nearly two hundred letters written by Subhas Chandra Bose from 1923 to 1932, along with speeches titled Gorur Katha and Nutuner Sandhane (In Search of the New). The fourth volume contains two major English essays written by Subhas Chandra Bose during his imprisonment in Burma, translated into Bengali. These essays reflect the depth of his study, the history of the textile industry, and the significance of the boycott of foreign textiles. Additionally, this volume contains various statements and speeches on public life and society, as well as a piece titled Mantrabichar and some letters. The fifth volume compiles over a hundred speeches and writings of Subhas Chandra Bose from 1929 to 1933. During this period, he was recognized as one of the most outstanding leaders of the country and a prominent proponent of left-wing politics in India. His farewell speech to the people of Kolkata, delivered as the Mayor, is also included in this volume.

The sixth volume contains the correspondence between Subhas Chandra Bose and Mrs. Emily Schenkl from 1934 to 1942. There are a total of 180 letters, 160 written by Subhas Chandra Bose and 20 written by Emily. Additionally, in the appendix, there is a letter from Subhas Chandra Bose to his elder brother Sarat Chandra Bose and one from Emily to Sarat Chandra Bose. A lesser-known aspect of Subhas Chandra Bose’s multifaceted life is his heartfelt love for Emily Schenkl, an Austrian woman. He met Emily during his compulsory stay in Europe, and they secretly married in December 1937. Their daughter Anita was born in November 1942. This volume reveals the human and emotional side of Subhas Chandra Bose's life. Despite his turbulent political life, the one place of peace for him was his spiritual connection with Emily. In the midst of various turmoils, these letters are often detached and calm, with Subhas Chandra Bose appearing almost as an unaffected reporter of the events around him.

His close friend, Nambiyar, said about Subhas Chandra Bose, "He was a man of thought—his only thought was the freedom of India. The only exception, if the word exception can be used, was his love for Miss Schenkl." Throughout his letters, there is undeniable evidence of his intense and profound love for her. Here, we find not the leader Subhas Chandra Bose, but the personal human being expressing his emotional yearnings. Emily’s letters reflect not just immense love, but also unyielding courage, intense independence, and a deep sense of self-respect. Through this personality, Emily added a new and profound dimension to Subhas Chandra Bose's life.
