Father Paul Detien is a French-speaking man from Belgium, but he has an amazing command of the Bengali language. He came to Calcutta in 1949 with sannyasvrata. Bengali study started in Srirampur. Gradually he became involved in a close relationship with Bengali language. Father Detien immersed himself in writing Bengali prose out of deep love. His outstanding efforts were congratulated as soon as the 'torn pages of the diary' were published in the national newspaper. He started writing again in Bengali in 2007 after a long gap. His wonderful prose collection was published from Ananda. Now the new book Atpaure Dinpanji has been published. The novels of various characters written by Uttam Purush are in his words "imaginary autobiography". In Father Detien's Bengali prose, melody, sense of humor, fluidity are classical assets, as well as his absolute love for Bengali language.
