Sunandar Journal by Narayan Gangopadhyay [Hardcover]
Sunandar Journal by Narayan Gangopadhyay [Hardcover]
From 1963 to 1970, Narayan Gangopadhyay wrote this journal almost continuously in the weekly magazine Desh under the pseudonym Sunanda. Sunanda's journal captures a beautiful portrait of Bengali life during this period, reflecting the joys, sorrows, happiness, and pain of the Bengali people. It examines their cultural inclinations, their tendency towards inaction, the cheap mentality of seeking heroism, the failures in education, and the connection of Bengalis with international events, along with the ups and downs of their lives—hope, despair, and disillusionment.
The journal also addresses the centenaries of both local and foreign authors, the nation’s grief over the passing of renowned writers and famous personalities, and Sunanda’s own deep sorrow. All writings, except for those that are purely time-bound, have been organized chronologically in this collection. This book serves as both a historical account of Bengali life during that time and a mirror reflecting the society of that era.
