Under the mentorship of Mr. Havel, Abanindranath joined the Government Art College in Kolkata as the Vice-Principal. This marked the beginning of the guru-disciple phase. The tradition of art flowed through the guru-disciple lineage. Alongside the conventionality of foreign art education, a revolution in Indian art philosophy took place. Abanindranath introduced a new wave in Indian painting, a movement that continued through his disciples.
