"Sukumar Sen was born in January 1900 in Kolkata. He passed the entrance examination in 1917 from Burdwan Municipal High English School, receiving the Mohini Mohan Mishra Medal. He obtained his Intermediate (IA) from Burdwan Raj College with distinctions in Sanskrit, Bengali, and Mathematics. He earned his BA in Sanskrit Honours from Sanskrit College and his MA in Comparative Philology from the University of Calcutta, where he was awarded the Gold Medal. In 1924, he received the Premchand Roychand Scholarship. In 1926, he received the Mouat Medal. From 1926 to 1931, he conducted original research and received the Griffith Memorial Prize three times and the Sir Ashutosh Mukherjee Medal twice from the University of Calcutta. He became a university lecturer in 1930, having been an honorary lecturer before that. He earned his PhD in 1937. From 1954 to 1964, he was the Khaira Professor. In 1952, he was the head of the Linguistics Department. In 1963, he received the Rabindra Award. In 1981, he received the Vidyasagar Award. He also received the Ananda Award, the Ramendra Sundar Memorial Award from the Bangiya Sahitya Parishat, the Sarojini Medal, and many others. Visva-Bharati conferred upon him the title 'Desikottam,' and Burdwan University awarded him a DLitt. He authored several books in both English and Bengali."
