Sholo Ana Bablu : Bitarkita Atmajibani by Subrata Bhattacharya [Hardcover]
Subrata Bhattacharya was a familiar face on the field long before he became a dramatic figure as a seventeen-year-old player on the boat. The previous year, he had gained recognition as a tall, lean stopper in the BNR Defense. In 1974, Syed Naimuddin and Nimai Goswami brought this tall, skinny lad to the Mohun Bagan team, coached by Shailen Manna and Chuni Goswami. However, that year was tough for Mohun Bagan, as they struggled in the league, playing mediocre football. Yet, they managed to defeat East Bengal in the Durand Cup by the end of the year.
The tall, lean boy's performance as a stopper caught everyone's attention during that first derby match. From then until March 1991, Subrata Bhattacharya and Mohun Bagan became synonymous. Wearing the iconic green and maroon jersey number sixteen, he earned numerous prestigious trophies over three decades of play. Alongside Mohun Bagan, Subrata's achievements flew the flag of victory across India. Under his leadership in 1977, Mohun Bagan won the treble. He dominated all Indian forwards, including foreign players, and represented India in the 1978 Asian Games and the 1984 Asian Cup. Within a year of retiring from football, he received the Arjuna Award, and a few years ago, he was honored with the Mohun Bagan Ratna. Overall, like Mohun Bagan, Subrata himself is a monumental institution in Indian football.
