Prabandha Sangkalan 2 by Sukumar Sen
In this volume of Sukumar Sen's collection of essays, a series of essays on Rabindranath Tagore and modern Bengali literature are included. The first volume featured a collection of essays on Sanskrit literature, medieval Bengali literature, folklore, culture, and linguistics. Rabindranath was the writer’s life-giving deity, whom he sought to discover from various perspectives. In addition to discussions on Rabindranath's poetry, songs, and stories, many essays in this volume explore various aspects, such as the person of Rabindranath, his childhood and upbringing, the geography of his writings, his first published work, and his relationships with contemporary learned individuals.
Apart from Rabindranath, the volume also includes various essays written over time on other writers of modern Bengali literature. Discussions span from figures like Debendranath, Madhusudan, Indranath Bandopadhyay, Rajendralal, and Vidyasagar, to Hemendrakumar Roy, Sukumar Roy, and even the comparatively lesser-known Shishir Kumar Ghosh. Alongside their literary contributions, the volume explores the philosophical thoughts of Bankim, Sri Aurobindo’s writings, and the intellect of Swami Vivekananda. Additionally, engaging discussions on the language of Shahidullah and Suniti Kumar Chatterjee have been included.
These essays, written on a variety of subjects, will undoubtedly provide future researchers with valuable insights and intellectual nourishment.
