Ajanta by Bhagini Nivedita [Hardcover]
Ajanta by Bhagini Nivedita [Hardcover]
Ajanta is a wonderful achievement. Ajanta has long been of equal interest to artists, archaeologists, art history buffs as well as the general public. Sister Nivedita visited Ajanta in December 1909. With a fascinated and analytical mind, he then wrote a long essay called The Ancient Abbey of Ajanta. It was serialized in The Modern Review in 1910. The work is full of wonderful discussions of Greek, and Gandhar's influence on Indian sculpture and Ajanta paintings, architecture, and art. The essay was compiled in illustrated form in the book 'Footfalls of Indian History' published in 1915. This work of Bhagini Nivedita is very valuable as the initial path of Ajantacharcha. Prasenjit Dasgupta and Soumyan Pal have added illustrations, relevant correspondence, and necessary annotations to Nivedita's outstanding writings on Ajanta in sister Nivedita's book 'Ajanta' published by Anand. A testament to Indian lover Nivedita's deep respect for Indian art, this book is a must-collect.
