The Ichamati is a small river, at least the portion that flows through the Jessore district. In the south, the Ichamati transforms into a vast saltwater river teeming with crocodiles, caimans, and sharks, and it eventually disappears somewhere into the Sundarbans, hidden behind forests of Sundari and Goran trees, before merging into the Bay of Bengal. The people in the rural areas of Jessore district have no idea where or how this happens.
