Hire Basano Sonar Ful by Samaresh Majumdar [Hardcover]
One day, Titori suddenly met her college friend Suborna at the metro station. They hadn’t been in touch for a long time. During this time, Suborna had gained some recognition by acting in a TV series. Titori had completed her M.A. and was looking for a job. Her father wanted to marry her off. Titori strongly objected. She would not marry until she could stand on her own feet. Suborna suggested that she act in the TV series. Titori agreed. Without telling anyone at home, she met Bibhasda. He liked her for the series. However, her decision to enter this field was hard for her family to accept initially. Yet, Titori, who believed in self-reliance, kept her feet firmly on the ground.
Around the same time, her sister-in-law Ranjana, who had been living her life as a good middle-class daughter-in-law, took a job in her old friend Upasna’s event management company, inspired by Upasna’s enthusiasm. Independent Ranjana tasted a new kind of life, because in the meantime, she had discovered a long, dark tunnel in her marriage with Subir. This tunnel would lead her nowhere. After Ranjana took the job, Subir started drinking. Yet, as a husband, a brother, and a son, Subir had left no mark on life. This hollow man had confined himself to the traditional middle-class mold. Ranjana’s father-in-law was a very good man, but her mother-in-law, with a heap of complaints about her husband, bias toward her masked son, and embarrassment about her daughter-in-law and daughter, added to her troubles.
Amid the waves of events in her acting career, Titori's life boat eventually reached the dream world of marriage with Krishanur. On the other hand, Ranjana's divorce from Subir became inevitable. But why? What path will Ranjana take now? The story of Titori and Ranjana sheds light on two different aspects of life. At first glance, the light may seem harsh and sharp, but a closer look reveals that just as the light of liberation has illuminated Titori’s life, it has done the same for Ranjana. Samaresh Majumdar’s novel Hiré Bosano Shonar Phool (A Golden Flower with a Diamond) brings a completely different flavor to storytelling.
