The role of Anandabazar Patrika in delivering impartial news to its readers deserves special mention. From the very beginning, this newspaper has been a proud entity on various fronts. For the past seventy-five years, Anandabazar has continued this tradition of excellence. The newspaper has not confined itself merely to the delivery of news. It has also dedicated itself to the enrichment and growth of Bengali literature and culture. Alongside the news, it has published a variety of creative works, with essays being one of the prominent forms. The objective of publishing essays was to stir the reader's thoughts, encourage intellectual engagement, and enhance knowledge. From its inception, the paper recognized that no literature in any language could be fully realized through mere entertainment. Along with this, there had to be a rigorous pursuit of intellectual cultivation. Essays, written in prose with logic, facts, and evidence, became the brilliant vehicle for this pursuit.

It is hard to find a Bengali intellectual who has not written something for this newspaper at some point in time. Selecting seventy-five essays from this vast collection was an extremely challenging task. Given this limitation, it is not surprising that some important works were left out. Secondly, keeping in mind readers from all walks of life, this collection includes some works that may not conventionally be called essays. A few of the pieces are clearly feature articles, and some even have the flavor of short stories. However, overall, this collection serves as an exceptional reflection of the ongoing intellectual landscape of Bengal. Apart from the diversity of subjects, the selected essays also clearly outline the evolution of Bengali prose.
