Natak O Natyakatha by Gangapada Basu [Hardcover]

In the productions of the Indian People's Theatre Association, playwright Bijon Bhattacharya brought contemporary real life, with all its flesh and blood, onto the stage in plays like "Jabanbandi" (1943) and "Nabanna" (1944), where ordinary people spoke, cried, and shouted in their own language. This revolutionized the theater world and marked the beginning of the new theater movement. Gangapada Basu was one of those who dedicated their lives to this movement. An eminent actor and playwright, Gangapada Basu was a remarkable talent. During the establishment of the new era in theater, he was a comrade of Maharshi Manoranjan Bhattacharya, Bijon Bhattacharya, Shambhu Mitra, Tripti Mitra, Shova Sen, and Tulsi Lahiri. Several of his plays were popular at the time. Additionally, he wrote many important essays on various subjects throughout his long theater career, which were compiled and published posthumously as "Natak O Natya Andolon."

In honor of Gangapada Basu's centenary, "Natak O Natyakatha" has been published by Ananda. This collection includes the rare essays from "Natak O Natya Andolon" and twelve plays. This book is significant as both a document of theater literature and theater history.
