Rabindranath Tagore first met the renowned orientalist Moritz Winternitz in 1921 in Prague, where Tagore invited him to be a guest professor at Visva-Bharati. Winternitz spent nearly a year teaching at the newly established Visva-Bharati in 1922-23 and gaining experiences from Tagore's company. This resulted in several essays and a booklet in German about Rabindranath, which were translated and edited to create this collection.
