Such a colorful, luminous, and picturesque way of life is rare. Despite their familial bond, they had built a relationship based on mutual respect and love. Within their home and outside, in the world of work, they soon became complements to each other. Their uninterrupted marital life once attained legendary status. They are Satyajit Ray and Bijoya Ray. The wife of the legendary filmmaker, at the end of her life, took up the pen. There was no external urge to write her life memoirs, but the many events, both known and unknown, the countless faces from her past, and the deep memories in her heart inspired her to write this unique history of memories. From her childhood to youth, and then to the chapters of her life carried forward with ‘Manik’ (Satyajit), she candidly, sincerely, and in great detail wrote about every moment, every day. The multi-colored stories that weave through Amader Katha (Our Story), if not known, would leave much about the person and creator Satyajit unknown. Many details and faces would have been lost, and countless markers of time would have faded away. This book preserves that beautiful past and recent past in its memories.

Bijoya Ray
Bijoya Ray was born in October 1917 in Patna. Her father, the famous barrister Charuchandra Das, and her mother, Madhuri Devi, was the sister of Basanti Devi, the wife of the renowned freedom fighter Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Das. After the death of her father in 1931, she moved to Kolkata to live with her uncle's joint family. Under the guidance of her aunt Sahana Devi, she received music lessons and became skilled in Rabindra Sangeet, classical, semi-classical, and other songs. She completed her matriculation from a women's educational institution and graduated with honors in English from Ashutosh College. She also taught at Kamala Girls' School and Bethune School during this period, and acted in the film Shesh Rokkha (The Last Rescue) by Rabindranath Tagore. Later, she left her job and moved to Mumbai, where she appeared in films like Rajani and Mashal. Her renditions of songs by Rabindranath Tagore and Himanshu Dutta became popular. In 1948, she was formally married to Satyajit Ray through a registered marriage, and in 1949, she was married by Brahmo rites through the initiative of Satyajit's mother, Suprabha Devi. Bijoya also worked as a volunteer for four years at Mother Teresa's Nirmal Hriday (Pure Heart). Throughout her life, she was a constant companion to Satyajit Ray in film production and at film festivals both in India and abroad.
