Amitendranath, the eldest grandson of Abanindranath Tagore, did not follow the family tradition of engaging in painting or literature. Instead, he devoted his life to the study of the Chinese language. He made teaching the Chinese language and literature his life's mission and spent nearly twenty-five years in the United States. Amitendranath translated several selected works from Chinese into Bengali and English. Now, almost reaching a century of age, he has gifted us with this memoir of his life. The transcriber of the memoir is Mitendra Gangopadhyay, the only son of the renowned fiction writer Mohanlal Gangopadhyay.
